Fish and chips, a classic British dish. Here's a recipe for classic fish and chips:

For the fish:
  • 2 pounds cod, halibut, or other firm white fish, cut into 1-inch thick pieces

  • 1 cup cold beer

Instructions:

1. In a shallow dish, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
2. In a separate shallow dish, beat the egg.
3. Dip each piece of fish in the flour mixture, then the egg, and back into the flour mixture.
4. Let the fish rest for 10-15 minutes.


Prepare the chips:

1. In a large bowl, toss the potato wedges with salt.
2. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).


Fry the fish and chips:

1. Carefully add the fish to the hot oil, working in batches. Fry for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
2. Remove the fish from the oil and drain on paper towels.
3. Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).
4. Fry the potato wedges in batches for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
5. Remove the chips from the oil and drain on paper towels.


Serve:

1. Place the fish and chips on a serving platter.
2. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce or malt vinegar.


Tips:
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying the fish and chips.
  • Don't overcrowd the pot when frying.
  • Drain the fish and chips well on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
